What should I say to my AI assistant to log workouts and food?
Say it the way you'd text a friend, with the numbers that matter: the exercise, weight, sets and reps for lifting; the time or distance for cardio; and what and how much you ate for food. For example: "Squats, 3 sets of 5 at 225", "Ran 5k in 28 minutes" or "Two eggs and a slice of toast for breakfast." Short and specific beats long and vague.
Lifting
- “Squats, 3 sets of 5 at 225.”
- “Bench 185 for 5, 5 and 4.”
- “Warm-ups at 95 and 135, then 3 sets of 8 at 155 on overhead press.”
- “Pull-ups, 4 sets of 6, bodyweight.”
- “Same workout as last Tuesday, but add 5 pounds to every lift.”
Cardio and classes
- “Ran 5k this morning, about 28 minutes.”
- “40 minute easy bike ride.”
- “45 minute yoga class.”
- “Walked 3 miles at lunch.”
Food
- “Two eggs and toast for breakfast.”
- “Chicken burrito bowl for lunch, about 650 calories.”
- “Here’s the label: 1 serving, 250 calories, 20 g protein. I had 2.”
- “Yesterday’s dinner was salmon, rice and broccoli. Log it for yesterday.”
Asking about your history
- “What did I squat last week?”
- “How far did I run this month?”
- “How much protein have I had today?”
- “Plan tomorrow’s workout based on this week.”
Also asked
Do I need special commands?
No. Plain sentences work. Include the numbers, and say which day or meal if it isn't today or obvious.
Can I log a whole workout in one message?
Yes. List each exercise with its sets, like "Bench 135 for 3 sets of 8, rows 3 sets of 10 at 50s, then 20 minutes on the bike."
What if I don't know the calories in my food?
Read the label to your assistant if there is one. If not, describe the food and amount. It will estimate.
